New enforcement body to protect workers

The government has committed to creating a new enforcement body to uphold vulnerable workers’ employment rights as part of the ‘Good Work Plan’.

Several existing organisations will be brought together for the new, single workers rights body. It will also be given new powers to deliver more effective protection for flexible workers, such as those working through umbrella companies.

The umbrella sector is, in many ways, something of an unsung hero for the UK economy. With over 400,000 employees working ‘under the umbrella’, and a yearly contribution of over £11billion to the Treasury coffers, surely this enterprise is substantial – and positive enough – to earn the respect of the Government?

All umbrella companies are equal are pleased to announce that following a full review of our over-arching contract of employment and umbrella company expenses policies we have gained membership of All Umbrella Companies are Equal (AUCAE). As such we are considered to follow HMRC policies and relevant UK tax law.

A government sponsored review, carried out by high profile entrepreneur Julie Deane, has concluded that self-employed workers should receive more support when it comes to maternity pay and support with adoption. 

Part of the HM Treasury, The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS), has launched an Employment Status Review.
