Tomorrow Umbrella.co.uk staff will be observing a two minute silence for Remembrance Day. We will be turning our phone systems to answering service for approximately 8 minutes from 10.55am. Thank you for your support and normal service will resume immediately after.
It was at this time, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 that World War I formally ended. It's a chance for us all to remember the sacrifices made by the armed forces and civilians, in times of war, both in the past and present.
Huge congratulations to our partners Kingsbridge on their victorious win at the APSCo Awards for Excellence 2016: Affiliate Member of the Year.
This is well deserved recognition by APSCo for Kingsbridge who consistently provide our limited contractors with outstanding service and comprehensive cover at competitive prices.

The 2016 Umbrella.co.uk ‘Employees of the Month’ were rewarded with a ticket to the When You Wish Upon a Star charity ball last Saturday night.
A spectacular welcome by storm troopers and Darth Vader was followed by a champagne reception, superhero glitter booth, dinner and entertainment.
Batman, Cat Woman, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman all partied with Umbrella.co.uk staff along with a host of Corrie and Emmerdale stars until the early hours.
Some of the Umbrella.co.uk ladies were left a little hot under the collar by Spiderman’s superhero outfit and Louise took a shine to Batman! Matt and Steve were caught on video perfectly executing the Spice girls A-Z Rap and Annie bagged the most celebrity selfies.
Starting with the more positive news for business motorists to come out of Phillip Hammond’s debut Autumn Statement, fuel duty has been frozen for the seventh consecutive year, meaning that contractors aren’t faced with having to dig deeper in order to put fuel in their vehicles, and nor are the firms some of them work for, such as couriers or construction companies.
The lamentable state of UK roads often results in delays along with damage to vehicles’ wheels, suspension and other components, so additional welcome news for contractors who drive is that an extra £1.1 billion will be provided by the government by 2020-21, aimed at relieving congestion and upgrading key roads. £220 million will also be spent on alleviating notorious pinch-points, helping the self-employed make more efficient use of their valuable time.
Pickup trucks are the backbone of many successful businesses around the UK, with the added bonuses of mean styling and toweringly lofty driving positions, the latter having become increasingly desirable for private motorists too. To date, only the Volkswagen Amarok has flirted with taking the pickup truck segment upmarket, but an announcement from Mercedes-Benz means that construction businesses and tradespeople will be able to combine the best of all worlds when its new X-Class takes to the road. It’ll be available in two distinct versions, the choice coming down to how ‘hands-on’ one’s job role is.
We are delighted to announce that Daniel Moss has won the Practice Excellence Awards for the many new initiatives he helped implement at Umbrella Accountants.
Up against some stiff competition, Daniel won the award as a result of his constant commitment to innovation and his work on our online Self-Assessment Tax Return completion pack.
The Practice Excellence Awards judges agreed with our submission that Daniel is “a model technology-led accountant, making sure he ensures compliance while embracing new ideas and technology”
The presence of vans on our roads reached an all-time peak last year, the DfT’s Road Use Statistics Great Britain 2016 report has identified, the 45 billion miles covered by van drivers in 2015 equating to a 38% rise from 2000 and accounting for 14% of all road use. Van traffic has risen by 12% over the last two years compared to car traffic which has increased by just 4%. Interestingly, HGV traffic has seen the smallest growth at 3%, having consistently reduced since the so-called ‘economic downturn’ several years ago.
