HMRC has announced that its much criticised IR35 Business Entity Tests (BETs) are to be scrapped from 6th April 2015. A review by the IR35 Forum found that the tests were used very little and not fulfilling their intended purpose.

HMRC have issued a note to confirm how the changes in the agency rules will interact with the current legislation in respect of working through an intermediary (commonly called IR35). It follows on from concerns that were raised during the consultation process of Onshore Employment Intermediaries: False Self-Employment. 

ContractorCalculator.co.uk have reported that HMRC have only issued 193 IR35 investigation letters between 1st April 2012 and 9th November 2012.

In July 2014, the Treasury launched a two part consultation on the treatment of tax for travel and subsistence payments. The aim is to bring legislation up to date with modern day working practices.

In the Isle of Man the Income Tax Division on behalf of The Treasury have issued a consultation document with the aim of amending their current legislation in respect of PSC's (Personal Service Companies).

It is being reported that HMRC have issued their first batch of IR35 letters to contractors working through their own Personal Service Companies (PSC's).
