Umbrella Accountants to attend FreeAgent Premium Partner Summit

Representatives from Umbrella Accountants will be joining other accountancy professionals from across the country at the FreeAgent Premium Partner Summit in February.

We have attended the summit for the last two years and found it informative and a chance to provide feedback to the team at FreeAgent regarding future developments. It’s also a chance to meet other accountants in the same industry and exchange ideas and solutions which we have also found extremely useful.

If any clients have any suggestions for FreeAgent for future development or improvements then we encourage you to email accountancy@umbrella.co.uk and we will put them to the team while we are there.

A new feature in FreeAgent will now calculate your submissions and tax liability for you on a monthly basis.

Here's how to use it

Go on the work tab and create a new project.

A poll carried out by leading accountancy software provider FreeAgent has found that nearly a third (30 per cent) of self-employed people say they work more than 48 hours per week.

Add your Agency’s email address in the contact tab to email invoices directly.

Once you have created your invoice, you can then email this directly from FreeAgent by a click of a button. You will also have peace of mind your client has received this as you will receive a delivered status.

Umbrella Accountants has recruited four young apprentices from local colleges to help the company capitalise on growth and boost the digital arm of its business.

Benjamin Smallman, 16; Sheraz Sheikh, 18; Liam Parker, 19; and Nicola Worthington, 23; have all joined Umbrella in training roles over the last couple of months.

In addition to their college accountancy course, which they attend one day per week, the group gains practical experience of everyday working life at Umbrella Accountants.

As a FreeAgent Premium Partner, Umbrella Accountants would like to congratulate FreeAgent on their recent flotation on the London Stock Exchange.

The company  was set up in 2007 by the three founders, Ed Molyneux, Olly Headey and Roan Lavery who were finding nothing suitable for their accounting needs in the marketplace. Set up with the intention of making accounting less painful for end users the company has gone from strength to strength since then winning prestigious Software Satisfaction Awards and thousands of new users along the way.

Umbrella Accountants moved to FreeAgent over two years ago because we also wanted to make handling finances as simple as possible for our contractors so it was a natural fit. We have attended Partner conferences at the head offices Scotland where we have seen much of what the future holds for the software, as well as taking part in round table discussions on tax changes that affect contractors and freelancers.

Congratulations once more to everyone at FreeAgent and we look forward to continuing to grow with them.

Incurring the same expense each week?

You can save time by setting up recurring expenses each month/week

You can add the expense, category, date, description etc. If the expense is recurring, you will then chose from the drop down menu how often you wish for it to be logged (every week, two weeks etc).

On the FreeAgent overview page, you can see a ‘Tax TimeLine’ tab on the bottom right which will provide you with an estimate of what your current Tax liabilities are...

If you have more than one unexplained transaction related to the same category on your FreeAgent portal, you can explain these in one go by clicking on the ‘more options’ tab and tick the relevant transactions.  For instance if you have bought a number of train tickets you can quickly allocate all of those transactions to travel costs in a few clicks.

If you are a contractor or freelancer the most tax efficient way for you to work is often through your own limited company. This allows you to benefit from the incentives offered for setting-up and running your own business and hence allows you to maximise your earnings after tax.

It also enables you to develop and build your business & brand and potentially in the future employ others.

The downside of this is that there is more responsibility on you as a director of your own limited company and there are statutory requirements re maintaining financial records, preparing and submitting year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, payroll and managing invoicing & payments.
