We actively recruit young apprentices from the local area as a great way to grow our business with loyal and qualified people. The apprentice path offers a practical, valuable and rewarding alternative to higher education. We currently have several apprentices working within the business in different specialisms and have even taken on 3 apprentices into full-time positions because they have impressed so much.
We always aim to promote from within wherever possible, keeping consistency of personnel for clients and encouraging other staff to also progress. Here’s some examples of the progression available at Umbrella Accountants.
Nicola started on 21st December 2015 as an Accounts Apprentice, she was quick to impress and by the 1st March she started taking on the role as an Accounts Assistant. She is now responsible with dealing with her own number of VAT returns each month and dealing with clients’ day to day queries. Since then she has finished her AAT Level 3 and has now started on a progression to the Semi-Senior Accounts position role.
Micaela started at the beginning of January 2013 as an Accounts Assistant, 1st October 2013 was promoted to Accountant, the 1st December 2014 Accountant Team Leader and the 1st June 2016 promoted to Deputy Accountancy Services Manager. In 2015 Micaela was shortlisted for the Practice Excellence Awards Trainee of the Year category.
Training and development
We are committed to the training and development of our people and nurturing a culture of learning, enabling the business to consistently meet objectives. It’s extremely important to us that our people reach their potential and fulfil career aspirations. A full study package for those looking to complete their accountancy qualifications is available and career development is monitored through specific individual and team based objectives. We regularly hold informal one-to-one meetings to ensure our employees are happy and to discuss their progress.
