It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Umbrella.co.uk

Umbrella staff have been busy in their free time getting their desks festive ready for the annual desk decorating competition.

A little tinsel here, some snowflake stickers there…and then came an onslaught of creative and tasteful office decorations until the offices transformed into our own Umbrella Winter Wonderland.

From Selfie Angels, A Star is Born and Santa’s Workshop to The Nightmare Before Christmas the offices look fantastically festive.

Big shout out to the accountancy team who raised £300 from their tuck shop and bought 40 toys for Manchester Mission Christmas to fill their Santa’s Workshop scene.

Nick Holmes, our CEO, judged the competition. Who would he go with? We each showed off our office spaces and explained our festive visions. In the end, he went with the Welcome Team’s ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ incredible miniature world scene.

So why do we do it?

Here are four reasons why getting into the festive spirit can boost morale in the workplace….

  1. Employees are encouraged to work as a team. Challenging employees to create Christmas decorations as part of a competition can work wonders for team spirit.
  2. Morale will get a lift. That morale boost should bring with it an uplift in productivity and a lowering of absence rates – Good news as your company strives to hit their end-of-year targets.
  3. The office environment will be reinvigorated. Festive decoration can help alleviate stress at this stressful time of year. It can improve employees’ wellbeing and lift the spirits.
  4. It’s a chance to show your human side. Encouraging employees to decorate their workspace for the festive season shows your organisation’s human side. It shows you care about your staff’s wellbeing, morale and happiness at work.
